Leader of the free world:
The P - R - E - S - I - D - E - N - T.
Commander in chief, head of state,
Hey, POTUS, it's Presidents' Day!
It's a
federal holiday, that's cool
'Cause that means we might get a day off from school.
But let's pay respect to presidents who've made
The USA the nation that it is today.
They lead the government, suggest what laws
Will help make the country better for all.
Appoint or pick folks who'll help do the job
And command the
military, roger that, y'all.
As you can see, the presidency
Has a lot to do with how the country will be.
Presidents' Day was originally for
Celebrating the birthday of my man, George
Washington, Father of the Nation, 'cause listen,
He helped win independence from Britain,
Signed the Constitution with a pen,
Got a state and a city named after him.
In the 1880s, the holiday was set up,
And for many years it was just for George, yup.
But Lincoln was added after he passed away,
And people saw he had a February birthday.
Abraham Lincoln, who helped end slavery
And, in the Civil War, led the Union to victory.
Now, on the third Monday of February,
We honor all the presidents, are you ready?
Leader of the free world:
The P - R - E - S - I - D - E - N - T.
Commander in chief, head of state,
Hey, POTUS, it's Presidents' Day!
Washington and Lincoln were the first two
Presidents we dedicated the day to,
But now we celebrate every P -
R - E - S - I - D - E - N - T!
You can run through them all with the Flocab unit,
"45 Presidents," if you want that, then do it.
But right now, we'll mention just a couple,
Theodore Roosevelt, he had muscle.
"Speak softly, and carry a big stick,"
Was his way of saying that he meant business.
He was known for helping working folk
And supported women's right to vote.
He's also called the first environmental
President, which was monumental.
100 years later, another president
Worked to protect the environment.
Barack Obama, our first black president,
Focused on climate change. Health care? Rearranged.
He chose two women for the Supreme Court,
That's more female justices than before.
On Presidents' Day, we make sure to remember
The many presidents who held the country together.
In times of war and times of peace,
We salute you, Commanders in Chief!
