In 1925, not too long ago,
Up in Alaska, which is covered in snow,
There was a little town called Nome, near the sea,
Far away from the airports and cities.
In this town, there was a
disease,
People were getting sick, and people were dying.
There was a doctor, but his head began to spin,
When he realized: "We're all out of medicine!"
The
residents, the people who lived there,
Some were getting sick, some were getting scared.
The only way to get the medicine to them
Was to use a dogsled, uh huh.
The
origin, where it would begin, was 600 miles away,
And that would take days.
People were scared to go, but some brave dudes
Volunteered, said it was something they wanted to do.
It's cold, it's cold, it's cold, it's cold, it's cold in Nome.
Yeah, but these dogs are brave. Ice and snow won't keep these dogs away!
The
climate in Nome: It's always cold, man,
If you spit, before it hit the ground, your spit would be frozen.
This is the
Arctic, it's extremely cold,
Where cold snowstorms always blow.
The
journey was long, and the trip was hard,
One man on a sled, led by nine dogs.
One dog would
steer and guide the sled,
It seemed like the snow would never end.
One dog, Balto, had the
ability to lead,
He could lead when he could barely see.
All through the night, that sled would
glide,
And slide across the ice to the other side.
The temperature was way less than zero,
They arrived in Nome, and the dogs were heroes.
These dogs had saved people's lives,
That's the true story of that amazing ride!
It's cold, it's cold, it's cold, it's cold, it's cold in Nome.
Yeah, but these dogs are brave. Ice and snow won't keep these dogs away!
